As fans of Dan Sultan eagerly await the commencement of his Aviary Takes Tour, they can now revel in the news of the Aviary Takes album, due for release on March 15.
The Aviary Takes album features acoustic and piano versions of the Melbourne singer-songwriter's most celebrated tracks, including fan favourite 'Old Fitzroy' and more recent hits like 'Kingdom'. It also boasts three bonus covers, including lead single ‘Love & Hate’ – a rendition of Michael Kiwanuka’s original hit first released in 2016 – Florence & The Machine's 'Dog Days Are Over' and Gillian Welch’s ‘Look At Miss Ohio’.
“Aviary Takes has been a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. I’ve been able to go over songs from my past catalogue and also record a few tunes from some of my favourite artists. It’s very stripped back and it’s the first time I’ve worked with the great and very talented Matt Redlich who produced the sessions. We had a great time making the album in the heart of Melbourne, at his Aviary Studios.” – Dan Sultan
Last week, Sultan popped into The Music to perform a live rendition of ‘Look At Miss Ohio’ as a precursor to the album’s announcement this week. Check out the gorgeous re-work HERE.
2019 has seen the return of a newly invigorated Sultan after a year of self-assessment and recalibration the year prior, with the Aviary Takes album and tour marking his return in the best way possible.
The tour launches this weekend in Hepburn Springs, taking in metro and regional locations across 20 dates, finally winding up in Port Macquarie on May 11. Fans can expect to see Sultan armed with a guitar, a keyboard, fresh batch of anecdotes and ‘dad jokes’. Tickets are on-sale now.
One of Australia’s most loved singer-songwriters, Sultan boasts numerous accolades to his name, including ARIA Awards, NIMA Awards, Top 5 ARIA-charting albums and a gold record in Blackbird.
The Aviary Takes album will be released on March 15. Fans will adore this stripped back collection of classics that allows Sultan’s charming vocals to shine.
